Return to Mine

Tung-Hui Hu is a poet whose work grows out of the ground it describes: repair, return, and the slow labor of excavating meaning from soil, empire, and personal history. His debut collection, Mine, published in the spring of 2007 by Ausable Press, later folded into Copper Canyon Press, reads as a sequence of lyric meditations on strikes, ploughshares, seed, water, and the eaten dirt of a country still in motion. Across these poems, myths and daily life interlock, and the writing moves with a blunt yet resonant clarity, avoiding sentimentality in favor of images that unfold plainly and freshly composed.
